StoryOS Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 2, 2026
StoryOS ("the app") is developed by Irfan Habeeb ("we," "us," "our"). This policy explains what happens to your data when you use StoryOS. The short version: nothing leaves your device, because the app has no way to send it anywhere.
1. Information We Collect
StoryOS does not collect any personal information, usage data, analytics, or diagnostics of any kind. We do not know who you are, how you use the app, or what you write. There are no user accounts, no sign-in, and no profile of any kind tied to you or your device.
Every story, chapter, character, codex entry, note, timeline event, tag, and image you create in StoryOS is stored exclusively in the app's private local storage on your own device. We, the developer, never see this data, have no server that receives it, and have no technical means of accessing it.
2. Network Access
StoryOS does not request the Android INTERNET permission and makes no network requests of any kind. It cannot contact any server, upload any file, or transmit any data, because it is not built with that capability. There is no analytics SDK, no crash reporting service, no advertising SDK, and no third-party tracking library integrated into the app.
3. Permissions
StoryOS requests only the storage access needed to let you choose where backup and export files are saved and read, using Android's Storage Access Framework. This means the app only gains access to the specific files or folders you explicitly select through the system file picker. It does not request broad access to your device's storage. StoryOS requests no other permissions: no camera, no microphone, no location, no contacts, no network state.
4. Backups, Exports, and Your Data
StoryOS lets you create backup files and export your manuscripts. These files are written only to a location on your device that you choose. The app never uploads these files anywhere automatically. If you back up, export, or share a file, that is an action you take deliberately, using your device's own share or file-management tools. StoryOS itself has no part in transmitting it.
Because all of your data lives only on your device, uninstalling StoryOS (or clearing its app storage) without first exporting a backup will permanently delete your stories. We have no copy to recover, since we never had one.
5. Data Sharing
We do not share, sell, rent, or disclose any user data to third parties, because we do not collect any user data to begin with. There are no third-party services, SDKs, or partners with access to your information.
6. Children's Privacy
StoryOS does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect information at all. The app contains no accounts, no chat features, and no way for any personal information to leave the device.
7. Data Security
Since your data never leaves your device, its security depends on your device's own security (screen lock, encryption, and physical access). We recommend keeping your device secured and, if you value your work, periodically creating backups using the app's export feature and storing them somewhere safe.
8. Changes to This Policy
If this policy changes, an updated version will be published and shipped with the relevant app update, along with an updated effective date above. Continued use of StoryOS after a change constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
