Almost Drafts Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2, 2026

Overview

Almost Drafts is an Android app for writing verse and turning it into images and PDFs. It works entirely on your phone. This policy explains what the app stores, what it never collects, the permission it may ask for, and what happens when you choose to share or save your work.

What we do not collect

Almost Drafts does not collect, transmit, or sell your drafts, titles, tags, settings, or any other personal data, to us or to anyone else. The app has no user accounts and no sign-in. It contains no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no advertising identifiers. The app does not request the internet permission, so it cannot connect to any server, including ours.

Data stored on your phone

The following is kept only in the app's private storage on your phone:

  • Your drafts: titles, verses, tags, the chosen form (for example haiku or sonnet), and whether a draft is pinned.
  • Version history: earlier versions of each draft, so you can go back to them. Up to 200 versions are kept per draft, and the oldest are removed after that.
  • Trash: drafts you delete stay in Trash for 30 days so they can be restored, and are then removed permanently.
  • Settings: your theme, reading size, contrast, lock, prompt and reminder choices, and your export preferences, including the name you choose to print on exported images and PDFs.

You can delete any draft at any time, and empty Trash from within the app. Uninstalling the app removes all of this data from your phone.

Device backup

The app opts out of Android's automatic cloud backup and device-to-device transfer. Your drafts are not copied to Google Drive or to a new phone by the system. The only way to move your drafts is the app's own backup, described below.

Backup and restore

"Back up drafts to a file" writes your drafts and their version history (not Trash) to a file in a location you choose through Android's file picker. The file is plain, readable text and is not encrypted, so anyone who has a copy can read your drafts. Where that file goes afterwards, for example a cloud storage service, is your choice and is governed by that service's own privacy policy. "Restore drafts from a backup" reads a file you pick and adds its drafts to the app. Nothing is sent anywhere in either case.

Lock drafts

If you turn on "Lock drafts", the app asks for your phone's fingerprint, face, or screen lock before showing your drafts. This check is handled by Android itself. The app never receives, stores, or has access to your fingerprint, face data, PIN, pattern, or password; it is only told whether the check succeeded.

Syllables, rhymes, and synonyms

Syllable counts, rhyme suggestions, and synonyms come from word lists that ship inside the app, based on the CMU Pronouncing Dictionary and WordNet. Every lookup happens on your phone. The words you write are never sent anywhere to be analysed.

Daily prompt and reminder

The daily writing prompts are built into the app. The optional daily reminder is scheduled on your phone and shown as a local notification. No message is sent from a server.

Permissions we request

  • Notifications: requested only if you turn on the daily reminder, and used only to show that reminder. On Android 13 and later you will see the standard Android prompt. You can turn the reminder off in the app or revoke the permission in Android Settings at any time.

The app does not request access to the internet, your contacts, location, camera, microphone, or your photo library. Saving to your phone on Android 10 and later uses Android's standard storage system and needs no permission. On Android 8 and 9, you choose a folder through the system file picker instead.

Sharing and saving your work

When you export a verse, the image or PDF is created on your phone. If you save it, it goes to the Pictures or Downloads folder on your phone, in a folder named "Almost Drafts", or to a location you pick. If you share it, the file is handed to the app you choose from Android's share sheet, or directly to Instagram when you use "Share to Instagram". The app keeps only the most recent shared export in its private cache, and replaces it on the next share.

Once you share a file with another app, such as Instagram, a messaging app, or an email app, what happens to it is governed by that app's own privacy policy, not this one.

Links in the app

The About section in Settings links to this website, to the Almost Drafts Instagram page, and to this policy. Tapping a link opens it in your browser or the Instagram app, outside Almost Drafts. Those pages are governed by their own privacy policies.

Data security

Because your drafts never leave your phone unless you export, share, or back them up yourself, the main protection for your writing is your phone itself. We recommend using a screen lock, and turning on "Lock drafts" if other people use your phone. Keep backup files somewhere you trust, since they are not encrypted.

Your choices and rights

Because we collect no personal data, we hold no account, profile, or server-side record about you to access, export, correct, or delete. All of your data is on your phone and under your control. You can export it with the backup feature, delete individual drafts, empty Trash, or remove everything by uninstalling the app. This applies wherever you live.

Children's privacy

Almost Drafts does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, and is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age that applies in your region). Since the app collects no personal data and cannot connect to the internet, no information can reach us through it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new "last updated" date. If a future version of the app handles data differently, this policy will be updated before that version is released.

Questions about this policy or how Almost Drafts handles data can be sent through the contact page.
