Farewell to Himself

He was eighteen, on the verge of a new phase

A bright student, with a charming face

He had curly hair, and a quiet grace

He kept to himself, in his own space

He loved his family, and did his best

To meet their expectations, and pass every test

He was ready to sacrifice, and do his part

To ease their troubles, and heal their heart

But one day, his father gave him a ticket

To a land far away, where he had to work and sweat

He said their home was sinking, and he had to go

He was their only hope, their last chance to grow

He could not speak, he could not cry

He could not question, he could not deny

He only nodded, and packed his bags

He left his books, his notes, his tags

He forgot his dreams, he forgot his goals

He forgot his passions, he forgot his roles

He forgot to live, he forgot to be

He forgot himself, he forgot to see

He boarded the plane, he flew away

He reached the land, he found his way

He worked hard, he earned his pay

He sent money, he wrote letters

He made new friends, he learned new things

He saw new places, he tried everything new

He adapted well, he grew strong..

But He couldn’t remember his dreams, he couldn’t remember his joys

He couldn’t remember his passions, he couldn’t remember his voice..

He wasn’t himself, but very himself

Selfless, restless, hardworking only to
Lose himself so early…
