A step too far
A bird cannot claim the sky
if it has broken its wings.
A river cannot whisper love
while drowning the shore.
What is the point of yearning
when my hands have sown sorrow?
When I plucked the fruit I was told to leave,
when I walked the path I knew led to thorns,
when I promised the light
but cast shadows instead?
A shadow does not deserve the sun,
for I do not deserve to call you one.
So I should keep my mouth sealed,
for words must earn their place concealed.
